Policy: Tuition assistance requests will come in via the website and paper forms. The Head of School will compile the requests and the supporting financial documentation and (after removing family names/identifying data) will review with a subset of the board and will determine allocating available funds for the following year. Applications should be received by March 1 for the following school year. Grants will not cover 100% of expenses – all families should be responsible for making some sort of contribution.
Salem Montessori School is committed to the policy of providing quality Montessori education at the most reasonable cost possible. Nevertheless, our tuition is beyond the means of some interested families. In keeping with Dr. Montessori’s philosophy that all children can profit from exposure to this environment, we have established a fund to provide tuition assistance to families who otherwise could not afford to attend the school.
Salem Montessori School strives to add to the racial, cultural, and economic diversity of our school community through our tuition assistance program. Tuition assistance decisions are based on the following formula: a family of four with a combined income of less than $60,000 per year or tuition costs exceeding 15% of gross income.
Salem Montessori School encourages families to contribute to tuition to the best of their abilities – the fund is not intended to cover 100% of the cost of tuition. The granting of tuition assistance is based solely on need. First priority is granted to families who have previously received assistance from the school. Second priority is granted to new applicant families who are committed to a minimum of two-year attendance. Acknowledging that family circumstances change and that the financial resources of our school vary, no family is guaranteed aid indefinitely. Annual application is required.
SMS will treat as confidential all financial information provided by families. The head of school will remove the names of applicants and only their financial data will be reviewed by members of a sub-committee of the Board of Directors.
Applications for the 2019-20 school year are due by March 1, 2019.
