Upper Elementary Lead Teacher 

Salem Montessori School, located in Winston Salem, North Carolina, is accepting applications for a Montessori Certified Upper Elementary Teacher. We are looking for an experienced educator to join our school for the 2024-2025 school year. Each teacher is expected to work collaboratively with all staff, setting an example for students. Teachers also promote and encourage the emotional, social and cognitive well-being of students, while maintaining a Montessori environment.

As our Upper Elementary teacher, you would be tasked with all classroom responsibilities, including lesson presentations, record keeping, communication with parents, and administrative duties pertinent to your class. Our entire faculty works together to create an environment that aligns with the Montessori pedagogy. All of our teachers are required to attend regularly scheduled meetings, school events, and contribute to a positive school culture. 

As SMS looks ahead, we are looking for dedicated individuals to grow with us and build our Upper Elementary program. We are looking for a candidate who is innovative, flexible and has a strong understanding of the Montessori pedagogy.

General Overview:
● Ensure that Montessori curriculum is being adhered to in a way that reflects the standards and philosophy of the school.
● Supervise interns or assistant teacher.
● Participate in staff and parent meetings/events/training.
● Arrive on time and have an attitude of service and flexibility.
● Keep HOS informed about child and parent needs, hopes and concerns.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

● Previous experience working with children.
● State Background Check/Fingerprinting.
● References (3).
● Medical reference stating ability to work with children and Tb test or screening
● Participate in pre-service and in-service training and professional development (minimum 15 hours/yearly).

Specific Duties:
• Prepare and maintain a clean and safe Montessori classroom environment.
• Keep records of children’s progress and assessment.
• Conduct parent/teacher conferences.
• Establish and maintain the classroom true to the Montessori philosophy, paying particular attention to the needs of students.
• Plan, prepare and maintain all units of study – including Montessori materials, thematic units, library books, etc.
• Communicate via weekly email and other times as need arises with parents about the class.
• Establish respectful and open lines of communication with parents with warmth.
• Facilitate a respectful environment for children and adults by advocating conflict resolution and grace and courtesy lessons.
• Interpret the Montessori philosophy to parents and community as well as assistants, interns, and volunteers.
• Work with HOS to help parents get third party intervention support as needed.
• Complete Red Cross First Aid and CPR courses.
• Participate in all staff meetings and parent events.
• Plan objectives for own professional growth annually.

Time Commitment: This is a full time position.

Qualifications:
• Holds a certificate by a MACTE accredited teacher education program for the level which he/she teaches and has completed at least one year of teaching.
• Holds at least a Bachelor’s degree.

Salem Montessori School is hiring classroom assistants for the 2024-2025 school year. Salem Montessori School seeks mature, dependable, adults who have experience working with children and are movtiated to learn about and implement the Montessori pedagogy. We are looking for assistants across all program levels; toddler, children’s house and elementary. Part-time and full time positions available.

From one classroom, Salem Montessori School has grown to offer three toddler classrooms, two children’s house classrooms, a kindergarten classroom, and two lower elementary classrooms.

We are looking for Part time Substitute Teachers for the 2024-2025 school year.

Salem Montessori School substitute teachers are an essential part of our community. Former teachers, parents and grandparents often choose to be a substitute teacher. Substituting is also a wonderful way to see if you are interested in teaching in a Montessori environment.

Substitute teachers assist in a classroom with a lead teacher. Substitutes attend a training session and have the support of the lead teacher and the SMS admin team. Substitutes are paid an hourly rate.
